Joe Satriani came to Vancouver as part of his Surfing to Shockwave tour, Satriani has been one of the most influential guitar gods of the last couple decades, is some countries he is known as Mr. Summer Time and Red Shutter Photography was there to capture a few shots from his concert at the Hard Rock Casino.
Something that is for sure on any Satriani’s concert is that the energy, passion and arpeggio levels were going to be all the way to the roof, this concert was special, on this tour, Joe is celebrating his 30 years career, no many guitar players can say they have a successful career as instrumentalist with artistic integrity, he is promoting an excellent new album Shockwave Supernova.
Joe played classic songs such as Summer Time, Always with me, Always with you, Surfing with the Alien along with new songs from his new album such as Shockwave Supernova and Lost in Memory, there was no opening band and it was a two and a half show, two sets and an encore.
Marco Minnemann (drums) and Bryan Beller (bass) with Mike Keneally complete Joe’s amazing lineup, The gig was full of rock and roll music and energy, the concert finished with “Surfing With The Alien” it has been thirty years since his debut and I hope I had the opportunity of photograph this guitar legend again in the near future.
Red Shutter Photography was approved to cover this event from pretty much anywhere, it was a bit challenging because they gave us only the first two songs, I enjoy a lot shooting concert photography at the Hard Rock Casino stage, it is by far one of the best light stages in the province, the sound system is unbelievable also.
